FEATURE STORY
Agency & Action:
2024 Martin Luther King Day

A clip on the critical role of youth – part of our newly released programming for Martin Luther King Day 2024.
At a time when many students and families feel diminishing agency, our King Day community activity, and all Dreamline programs, help us to remember that important changes often originate from youth and are started by a small group of people.
A few years ago, the African American Museum in Philadelphia came to Dreamline to invite our collaboration for their programming on Martin Luther King Day. It was mid-COVID and fully virtual. That day produced ideas and discussion about justice, injustice and change from all ages along with simplified Dream Banners from a large audience spanning early elementary grades to seniors.
This year we are pleased to offer the Dreamline community an updated version of this program as a supplement to our Hope Rising program materials. It engages participants of all ages to reflect on the legacy of Dr. King, think and talk about injustice in our lives today, and imagine the important changes we will work to see in our world twenty years from now.
PROGRAM PROGRESS
World Without War Song Project Update

Our music video project with Dreamline students in Iran and US collaborators (featured in our November Me to We) is progressing well. Renowned Philadelphia musicians Joe Tayoun (of Jaffna) and Bill Tayoun have laid down the music tracks with keys and percussion. We are working on a plan for the vocal recordings with T-VOCE (Teen Voices of the City Ensemble), a program of The Opera Company of Philadelphia. Video content for the song project they initiated is being created by the student team in Tehran.
With luck, we’ll be able to complete production or at least a preview, by January 15, Martin Luther King Day. We have been invited by Global Citizen to premier the video at their King Day event which draws as many as 5,000 participants as well as Pennsylvania government leaders at the local, state, and national levels.

Our Board is pleased to announce that we recently received a grant for $10,000 from a private foundation to fund our Dream Path SEL program at several sites in the School District of Philadelphia this coming spring. The grant provides intensive Dreamline staff support for the 15-hour program, all physical and digital materials, support for local installations, as well as community participation in the culminating year-end event at Cherry Street Pier. We are in conversation with potential sites and inviting inquiries as well. Contact programs@dreamline.org.
